All students are supposed to take the same Proficiency Exam at the end of the academic year. This exam constitutes the 40% of the year-end evaluation mark. There are 3 main parts in Proficiency Exam: grammar, writing and reading. Proficiency Exam covers the subjects taught throughout the year.
Unsuccessful students should attend the Summer School. The aim of the 6-week summer school is to prepare the students for the Summer School Proficiency Exam. In case they fail in that exam, too, they are supposed to attend the EPS Program one more year.
Proficiency Exam in February
All students will be given a Proficiency Exam on 10 Feb 2012 regardless of their grades. Successful students will be exempted from the EPS Programme and they can register for their spring semester courses in their Faculties.
Scholarship
Preparatory school scholarships are awarded at the end of the academic year to 3 students who have the highest achievement points scored in each group. The students who achieve the highest marks in each group are awarded a discount by the Scholarship Commission.
Participation and Attendance
Attendance is compulsory at EPS and if a student fails to attend more 10% of the classes, s/he fails. Students are responsible to make up all the lessons they missed during their absence. Students who are absent due to their health problems should have their health reports ratified by the school doctor and hand them to the EPS Secretary ( in 3 days). A student can only hand health reports covering a week’s total class hours in a semester at most. Instructors do not have the right to let students leave the class even if students make excuses. Only the students who represent the University in an approved activity are accepted to be “excused” with the written permit of the Office of the Dean of Students.
The students who get a doctor’s report on the exam day are accepted as excused and can take make-up exams. There will be ‘Make-ups’ for the following exams:
Mid-term exams
Final exams
Proficiency exam
Students who want to take the make-up exam should apply to the EPS Administration with a petition as shown in the sample below and doctor’s report in at least 3 days. Students can take the make-up exams only after their reports are ratified by the EPS Administration.
