M.A Program of English Language Teaching Department was opened in 2005. Since 2005, the Department has been offering graduate program, Master of Arts (MA) with/without thesis, in order to educate students in the field of foreign language learning and teaching and as teachers.
The aim of the program is to educate students with both academic and pedagogical knowledge that would enable them to perform in a constantly changing world, and thus prepare students for present and future endeavors.
Students who successfully complete the curriculum of this program will find open doors to a range of careers in teaching, public relations, tourism, business, and other related fields. It is a prerequisite for students to enrol in the program after having qualified in the Post-graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES).
A candidate may pursue an M.A. Program with or without thesis in English Language Teaching. While the M.A Program with thesis requires a total of at least twenty-four credits, a non-credit course and the M.A. thesis, the M.A. Program without thesis requires a total of thirty credit hours and the M.A. project.
ADMISSION TO THE GRADUATE PROGRAM
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
a) All applicants need to have an undergraduate CGPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 (or 2.5 out of 5, 10 out of 20, 50 out of 100, etc.).
b) All applicants applying M. A program in ELT need to have an acceptable English Proficiency Test, such as KPDS/ÜDS (minimum 65) or the equivalent international tests given in the following table:

c) Turkish citizens are required to pass ALES (minimum 55 in the related discipline) as a condition for being accepted to a Graduate Programme or the equivalent international test, GRE (Graduate record examination) seen in the following table:

DURATION OF STUDY
a) Full-time Graduate Programme Without Thesis takes a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of three semesters.
b) Full-time Graduate Programme With Thesis takes a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters. (If the student has a CGPA of 3.5 or more, he/she can try to complete his/her thesis in one semester, subject to the approval of the supervisor).
c) Part-time Graduate Programme Without Thesis will take a maximum of five semesters. Students must take at least two taught courses per semester, unless their coursework is complete except for one course.
d) Part-time Graduate Programme With Thesis will take a maximum of eight semesters. Students must take at least two taught courses per semester, unless their coursework is complete except for one course.
