The Master of Art degree programme in English Language Teaching aims to bring teachers up-to-date on recent developments in second/foreign language teaching methodology. Among its objectives are
* to provide the fundamental concepts of the knoeledge base for teaching English;
* to provide the curriculum skills needed to design, implement and evaluate a second language teaching programme;
* to develop a critical understanding of major theoris of second language teaching, and their implications for language teaching practice;
* to develop a personal theory of teaching and a reflective approach to one's own teaching.
Students with a B.A. degree in ELT or a related field are normally eligible for admission to the MA Programme. The MA ELT Programme consists of either a minimum of eight courses, one seminar course, and a thesis, for a minimum of 24 credits or at least 10 courses and a semester project, for a minimum of 30 credits. The semester project, seminar course and the thesis are non-credit and graded on a pass/fail basis.
The graduates are trained to work as English language teachers at preparatory schools within universities, teacher trainers, programme administrators, curriculum designers, and testing specialists.
