COMM 101        Introduction to Communication  (3,0)3
This course is designed to acquaint students with the broadcasting journalism and allied professions.  It consists of a survey of the organisation, functions and uses of the mass media, and their impact on life styles, images, standards, philosophies, government and business. Emphasis will be placed on the experienced environment.
JRN 101  Basic Journalism          (3,0)3
The aim of this course is introducing to the profession of journalism. Topics covered are mainly focused on the historical and contemporary issues related to the newspaper industry and to print journalism generally.
COMP 100  Introduction to Computer   (2,2)3
Introductory course to computers and their application. Topics covered include hardware and software concepts, as well as consideration of the organization and functioning of a computer system, along with office automation, databases, and various applications of computers. Practical sessions include DOS commands, word processing, and spreadsheets.
ENGL 121  English I      (3,0)3
This course wills concentrates on English for academic purposes in order to assist students with their academic studies.  In order to do this similar operations followed in their faculties will be practiced.
SOCY 111  Introduction to  Sociology  (3,0)3
An introduction to the basic concepts, methods and application of the sociological perspective.  These concepts will be reviewed in relation to contemporary institutions and trends.
TURK 105  Turkish        (3,0)3
In this course correct pronunciation of the Turkish sounds will be studied. Theoretical and practical studies would be carried out on types of communications aiming to convince and to inform the audience.
COMM 102  History of  Mass Communication   (3,0)3
This course includes the development of mass communication and its history, the main factors that played  role in the development of mass communication and the relationship between the history of communication and the history of humanity.
RTVC 102  Introduction to TV and Cinema   (2,2)3
Fundamentals of the historical evaluation of television and cinema, their similarities and differences. Introduction to basic theories of mass communication and the characteristics TV and cinema portray in that field.
TURK 106  Turkish Text Writing    (3,0)3
A general introduction about text writing together with the rules of text writing will be studied. Practical studies will be carried out about the text used in the areas of TV, radio, newspapers and public relations.
ENGL 122  English II     (3,0)3
 The continuation of ENGL 121 with similar objectives; topics used will be more related to students degree subjects.  Pre-requisite: ENGL 121
ECON 100  Introduction to Economics   (3,0)3
Introducing the basic concepts, nature, scope and methods of economics; introduction and a general view of the price system; elasticity; consumer behaviour; theory of the firm; perfect and imperfect competition; monopoly vs competition; the theory of distribution; factor markets and income distribution.
PRA 102  Principles of Public Relations    (3,0)3
An introductory course explaining the roles, functions, purposes, responsibilities, and methods of the public relations profession, and career opportunities available.
COMM 201  Mass Media             (3,0)3
This course includes the development of mass communication institutions and their structure today. The reasons and the results of instituionalisation, professionalisation and monopolisation among mass media. The influences of the institutionised mass media on public life.
JRN 204  News Writing      (2,2)3
This course will give students an introduction to the theory and practice of gathering and evaluating news, news writing including copy reading and basic editing and the organization of news stories. The course will be with reference to writing for newspapers. As part of the practical section of this course, students will write and edit news stories to be used in the University’s newspaper.
JRN 203  Photography               (2,2)3
The study of basic photography; Basic technical theory, light and its properties, film basic, 35 mm camera equipment & techniques, photographic chemistry basic, B/W darkroom equipment & techniques, how the material and processes work, technical and aesthetic aspects and essential notions to establish a base for photo-journalism.
RTVC   203  Production Techniques of Cinema&TV  (2,2)3
This course introduces students to the technology of TV and Cinema. The course covers broadcasting methods, studio production, technical equipment video and audio production techniques.
POLS 100  Introduction to Political Science     (3,0)3
This course offered by the Department of International Relations, as an introduction to Political science (Part 1) is specifically designed to give the student a sound understanding of politics in a systematic and scientific way within the framework of social sciences, of which political science is just one of its many academic disciplines. Topics covered include: What is Politics? Nations and States: Political Ideologies; Equality; Political Culture; Freedom and Authority; and the State and the Media.
COMM 202   Communication Law    (3,0)3
A study of the laws and regulations governing journalism and broadcasting in Cyprus and Turkey; comparison with such laws and regulations in other countries. Information about freedom of communication and copyrights.
RTVC 204  Film Making            (2,2)3
This course introduces students to the art of film and film-making techniques. The course covers almost all steps of filmmaking processes from shoting to post-production.
PRA 204  Advertising Design      (2,2)3
In this course students learn how to design a product ad. It is a layout process of creative advertising.
HIST 102  History of Civilization       (3,0)3
A survey of the origins and development of Western Civilization during the ancient and mediaeval periods, in which the history of Cyprus and its surrounds will figure prominently. Stress is placed on the social, economic, and political aspects, but it also covers cultural and technical elements and their inter-relationships. Includes field trips.
PRA 203  Principles of Advertising     (3,0)3
A broad survey of advertising , its use of media and creativity, as seen by both the practitioner and the consumer. History, structure, and functions will be explored.
HIST 100  History of Turkish Reforms    (2,0)2
History of the construction of the Turkish Republic under the light of Kemal Atatürk's principles. This course is designed for Turkish speaking students.
STAT 210  Social Statistics         (3,0)3
This course provides particularly students of International Relations, Political Science and Sociology with a general introduction, and overview of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics and features an emphasis on interpretation of data.
COMM 302  Media and Public Opinion    (3,0)3
The public opinion is one of the argumentative and important terms in the communication researches.
COMM 301  International  Communication     (3,0)3
The character of worldwide news and data circulation. International Communication Orderand its affect on countries. Growing differences between proceuder cultures and cunsumer cultures. The place of Turkey and the TRNC in the International Communcation Order. New Communication technologies and projects for the 21st century.
PRA 307  Page Design    (2,2)3
This course introduces the techniques of page design in computer. Students are to be learned how to design a WEB page.
PRA 308  Interactive Multimedia      (2,2)3
Conceptual, technical, and aesthetic proficiency in interactive multimedia is the goal of this course. The final requirement is to create an interactive CD-Rom as a group project. Continuing emphasis on theory and methods of interactive design.
PRA  302  Marketing in Practice        (3,0)6
The major objective of this course is to provide students with comprehensive perspective of challenges marketers are facing in everyday life. The class will be run on an interactive basis, by focusing on real life case studies of success and failure stories.
PRA 305  Principles of Marketing        (3,0)3
This course is deigned to introduce students to marketing both as a vital business philosophy and as a key functional area.
COMM 401  Analysis of Media Products      (3,0)3
In this course you will be learning about the main techniques used for research in various fields of communication. How to research about the process of preparing production; with emphasis on the institution, production process and audience.
COMM 402  Media Ethics            (3,0)3 
This course provides students with a unique opportunity to explore and develop ethical motivations to their work as communicators in public life. It explores a wide variety of ethical issues that include censorship, conflicts of interest, portrayal of minorities, the olderly, and children.
COMM 419  Research Techniques in Media   (3,0)3
 The purpose of the course is to acquaint the students with various  conceptual issues surrounding specific research, to develop the students ability to carry out meaningful research in the administrative and social areas and to present their result in a clear and unambiguous way.
PRA 309  Techniques of PR Campaign  (3,0)3
This course is going to be the simulation of constructing promotions with an emphasis on public relations. After a real-like brief the students simulating a public relations agency will do a public relations strategy.
PRA 311   Strategic Creativity for Advertising   (2,2)3
This course is to provide some basic ideas, concepts and materials for creativity in Advertising. In particular will deal with questions of method and how to create strategic campaigns in advertising.
PRA 304  Publicity       (2,2)3
Basic principles and techniques of publicity; strategic usage in Public Relations and advertising campaign.
PRA 306  Human Resources Management in PR and Adv       (3,0)3
The importance of human resources in Public and Private organizations and the applied human resource principles and techniques in advertising field.
PRA 405  Campaign in PR and Advertising   (4,4)6
The students simulating different roles in an advertising agency will develop their advertising and promotional ideas based on their previously formed strategies. At the end of the course each group will present their advertising campaign in front of a real-like client.
PRA 401  Campaign Research in PR and Adv.   (4,4)6
The aim of this course is to analyse real life cases in both national and international advertising. The courses will be interactive to enable the students to use their theoretical background on advertising to understand and analyse what really happens in the market.
PRA 403 PR For Non-Profit Organizations    (3,0)3
The usage at basic principles and techniques of public relations in state institutions and organizations.
PRA 404 PR For Private Sector    (3,0)3
 The teaching of basic principles and techniques of public relations and publicity in private organizations.
PRA 420  Graduation Project     (0,6)3
Independent study on special topics of interest to student under direction of a faculty member approved by the department head.
