Mehmet Acar and Ali Hakan were the guests of EUL with the organization of the Department of Radio-TV-Cinema, EUL Cinema Club and Office of Students Dean at New Preparatory School Conference Hall at 11 AM on December 7, 2007.
At the conference which was held by Mehmet Acar and Ali Hakan who make cinema programs in various TV channels, Mehmet Acar explained the recent trends in cinema industry with a general reference to the contemporary Turkish cinema. Expressing that the cinema has been democratized through the digital techniques used world wide, he stated that the cinema had shifted from chemical to digital technology and added that the cinema industry was on the development process. He said that the construction of big shopping centers in 1970s had caused cinema sector undergo a change and the contemporary cinema culture had developed in parallel with shopping centers. Moreover, he stated that the cinema was the indispensable entertainment type for the generation at the age of 14-30 and it was the latest type of art. He highlighted that, as for the ticket sales, the majority of them were sold for Turkish films which meant that there was a group of people who were eager to seeing their own movies. “Kurtlar Vadisi: Irak” and “Babam ve Oğlum” were the examples he gave within this respect.
Ali Hakan stated in his speech that there were 12 films qualified to attend the Golden Orange Film Fest 2007 (Altın Portakal), whereas this figure was limited to 7-8 previous years. Emphasizing the serious increase in the number of the films made, Hakan said that the number of the films released was increasing day by day in Turkey. Stating that the Turkish audience preferred comedy and dramatic films, he said that there was a developing cinema industry in Turkey and the series were the locomotive of this industry. He also said that the series shot in TRT period had been quality productions however, with the emergence of the private TV channels, that quality had been disturbed; on the other hand, it was being regained through new productions those days. He said that even if they were the Americans who mostly invest in film industry, the Turkish series shown on high rated Turkish channels; and added that Turkey was beyond many countries in this field.
The conference was ended after the famous critics answered the questions of the students. They were also attended a program on EUL FM 97.4 at 3 PM.
